First class proved boring. Going over shit I did last year, and a tutorial, with questions that are so obvious and easy. Sad face.. Example of question WITH my answer:1. What advantage is there in performing an unattended installation of the operating system? An ‘answer file’ is central to an unattended installation. What does it contain, what tool is available to generate it and how is it used if the operating system is to be installed from a CD on a PC which does not have an operating system already installed on it?
The advantages of using an unattended installation is that it’s a lot faster, especially if it’s being done to multiple computers. In order to do an unattended installation an answer file (unattend.txt) must be created, this file contains information that will be inserted as the installation progresses, to save any user interaction during this time. It contains things like the Admin password, computer name, license key, date/time and regional settings. The tool used to make an answer file is located on the Windows install disc, in the valueadd folder. It’s called Setup Manager. Setup Manager is used to create the unattend.txt file. If the unattended install is being run on a computer without an operating system, the unattend.txt file must be put on a floppy disc after being renamed to winnt.sif. Insert the CD and the floppy and the installation will be fully automated.
This is supposed to be my BSc year. D:
XD, i always wondered what that thing was for.
It’ll probably be like that for the next few classes… first few classes always suck.
